| SFC is rapidly being recognized as a preparative chromatography method of choice. CHIRAL TECHNOLOGIES was at the forefront of this technique for chiral separations, starting our SFC separation service in 1997.
At the same time we developed semi-preparative chiral columns specifically designed for SFC applications which have contributed greatly to the increase in attention given to this technique. |

| SFC has two main advantages for preparative separations. One is speed: a higher production rate can be obtained from a given column since the mobile phase viscosity is very low and fast, efficient separations can be achieved.
The other advantage is the small quantity of organic solvent used: between 10% and 20% of that needed for a HPLC separation. This not only decreases the total quantity of solvent used for the separation, but also makes it easier and faster to recover the
products from the small modifier volumes remaining after condensation from the CO2. |
| CHIRAL TECHNOLOGIES uses two SFC systems for preparative work: 3-cm and 5 cm id. The larger unit may be used for cGMP separations, with separation projects of multi-kg scale. |
