Core Technology
The word chiral is derived from "chir," the Greek word for "hand." It refers to the phenomenon of mirror images frequently found in nature; hands, eyes, and feet are identical opposites, or mirror images, of each other.
Many pharmaceutical products are "racemic" compounds: pairs of molecules known as "enantiomers," whose structures are mirror images. Often, one enantiomer offers the desired therapeutic effect, while the other is ineffective or causes side effects. Many new pharmaceuticals and agrichemicals are single enantiomers. This can reduce the therapeutic dosage by half, improve efficiency, and may eliminate detrimental effects caused by the undesired enantiomer.
The immobilized and coated polysaccharide chiral stationary phases(CSPs) used to separate these pairs of enantiomer were invented by Professor Yoshio Okamoto of Nagoya University in Japan. The CSPs based on his discoveries were the foundation for the establishment of CHIRAL TECHNOLOGIES in the early 1990s.

The specialized phases and columns known as Lindner Phase Columns are based on technology developed by Professor Wolfgang Lindner and his colleagues at the University of Vienna. These columns and CSPs are intended specifically for the separation of chiral acids.
